Creating an Anti-Requisite 21h

Purpose: Use this document as a reference for how to create an anti-requisite in ctcLink.

Audience: College staff responsible for building Enrollment Requirements

Anti-requisites are used when credit can be earned for only one class in a list of classes with similar content.

Create an Enrollment Course List

The Enrollment Course List establishes which courses this anti-requisite applies to.

Navigation:  Main Menu > Curriculum Management > Enrollment Requirements > Enrollment Course Lists

1.     Select Add a New Value tab.

Note: The Course List number auto-populates to 00000000. This value will update once the Course List is saved. Accept the default value.

  1. Complete the Course List Description tab.
    1. Effective Date: Use 01/01/1901
    2. Status: Leave as the defaulted Active.
    3. Description: Input a desired description that will be easy to identify later in the setup (30 char. max)
    4. Short Description: This field auto-populates based on the Description entered. Accept the value or input a desired short description (10 char. max)
    5. Long Description: This field is required but is informational only. Input a desired long description (254 char. max).
    6. Academic Institution: Input your college code.
    7. The remainder of fields on this page are optional.
Course Description tab

Note: The fields on this page are not student-facing. Institutional naming convention should be used to easily identify course lists when completing remaining setup.

  1. Complete the Course List Detail tab.
    1. Course ID: Input or use the magnifying glass to look up the courses to which this anti-requisite applies.
    2. Include Equivalent Courses: Check this box if equivalent courses should also be restricted by the anti-requisite.
    3. Use the [+] button to add additional courses to the list.

  1. When all courses have been added to the list, click Save. Note, a Course List number has been generated.

Create an Enrollment Requirement

Navigation:  Main Menu > Curriculum Management > Enrollment Requirements > Enrollment Requirements

  1. Select Add a New Value tab.

Note: The Enrollment Requirement number auto-populates to 00000000. This value will update once the Enrollment Requirement is saved. Accept the default value.

  1. Complete the Enrollment Requirement tab.
    1. Effective Date: Use 01/01/1901
    2. Status: Leave as the defaulted Active.
    3. Requirement Name: Input a desired Requirement Name that will be easy to identify in later setup. (30 char. max)
    4. Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Requirement Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (254 char. max)
    5. Short Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Requirement Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (10 char. max)
    6. Report Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Requirement Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (80 char. max)
    7. Report Long Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Requirement Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (nearly unlimited char.)
    8. Academic Institution: Input your college code.
    9. The remainder of fields on this page are optional.

  1. Complete the Line Item tab.
    1. Line Type: Use Course Requirement.
    2. Line Name: Input a desired Line Name to identify the anti-requisite. (30 char. max)
    3. Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Line Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (254 char. max)
    4. Short Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Line Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (10 char. max)
    5. Report Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Line Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (80 char. max)
    6. Report Long Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Line Name entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (nearly unlimited char.)
  1. Complete the Line Item Parm tab.
    1. Input the desired value in Maximum Courses Allowed.
  1. Complete the Line Item Detail tab.
    1. Line Detail Type: Use CLST – Course List
    2. Course List: Input or use the magnifying glass to select the course list you just created.
  1. Click Save. Note, an Academic Requirement number has been generated.

Create an Enrollment Requirement Group

Navigation:  Main Menu > Curriculum Management > Enrollment Requirements > Enrollment Requirement Groups

  1. Select Add a New Value tab.

Note: The Requirement Group number auto-populates to 00000000. This value will update once the Enrollment Requirement Group is saved. Accept the default value.

  1. Complete the Course Requisite tab.
    1. Effective Date: Use 01/01/1901
    2. Status: Leave as the defaulted Active.
    3. Description: This value is used to attach the Requirement Group to each course. Input a desired description (30 char. max)
    4. Short Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Description entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (10 char. max)
    5. Long Description: The description entered in this field appears in the course catalog, class search, and at the time of enrollment when the user encounters a requisite error. Input a desired, student-facing description for the anti-requisite. (254 char. max)
    6. Report Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Description entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (80 char. max)
    7. Report Long Description: Informational only, this field auto-populates based on the Description entered. Accept the value or input a desired description. (nearly unlimited char.)
    8. Academic Institution: Input your college code.
    9. The remainder of fields on this page are optional.
  1. Complete the Requisite Detail tab.
    1. Group Line Type: Use Requirement.
    2. Requirement: Input or use the magnifying glass to select the Requirement you just created.
    3. Requisite Type: Use Pre-Requisite.
  1. Click Save. Note, a Requirement Group number has been generated.

After completing these steps, the Enrollment Requirement Group number must be attached to all applicable courses in the Course Catalog.
