Create a Milestone for Degree Concentrations

Purpose: Use this document as a reference for creating a milestone for degree concentrations in ctcLink.

Audience: Enrollment Services/Advising staff.

You must have at least one of these local college-managed security roles:

  • ZC SACR Milestone Config
  • ZD SACR Milestone Config
  • ZD SACR Student Rec Config
  • ZZ SACR Milestone Config

If you need assistance with the above security roles or SACR settings, please contact your local college supervisor or IT Admin to request role access.

You must also set these SACR Security permissions:

Overview

➡️Milestones can be used to track students' concentration of study within a degree. Academic advising reports can then be built to display requirements specific to each concentration Milestone.

Set Up SACR > Product Related > Student Records > Enrollment > Milestone Table

Add a New Milestone

  1. The Milestone Table search page displays.
  2. Select the Add a New Value tab.
  3. Enter the following:
    • Academic Institution.
    • Milestone (10-character field).
  4. Milestone Naming Convention:
    • Naming convention for concentration Milestones is an institutional business decision.
  5. Recommended Options:
    • One Milestone with multiple concentrations. Begin Milestone name with degree, followed by CONC for concentration.
      • Example: AADTA_CONC.
    • One Milestone for one concentration. Begin Milestone name with degree followed by specific concentration.
      • Example: AS-T1_CHEM.
  6. Select Add.

Enter Milestone Details

  1. The Milestone Table page displays.
  2. Enter information into the following fields:
    • Effective Date: Use 01/01/1901.
    • Status: Leave as the defaulted Active.

Descriptions

  1. Description: Appears in Student Center if the Milestone displays in self-service (30-character field).
  2. Formal Description: Appears on student transcripts if the Milestone prints on transcripts. If not printed on transcripts, this value is not student facing (50-character field).

Date Calculation Fields

  1. Calculate Required Date: Select Do Not Calculate.
  2. Calculate Anticipated Date: Select Do Not Calculate.

Transcript Settings

  1. Transcript Level:
    • Controls whether Milestone information prints on transcripts. This is an institutional business decision.
    • If Milestone will print on transcripts:
      • Select Print on Official.
    • If Milestone will not print on transcripts:
      • Select Never Print.
  2. Print Milestone Detail:
    • If Milestone prints on transcripts:
      • Select Print If Satisfied.
    • If Milestone does not print on transcripts:
      • Select Never Print.

Grading Fields

  1. Attempts Allowed: Leave blank.
  2. Grading Scheme: Leave blank.
  3. Grading Basis: Leave blank.

Self-Service Availability 

  1. Select options as appropriate:
  2. Allow Student Self-Service.
    • Check to allow students to review the assigned Milestone information via the Student Center.
  3. Allow Student Attachment.
    • Check to allow students to attach files to assigned Milestones via the Student Center.
  4. Allow Advisor Self-Service.
    • Check to allow advisors to review assigned Milestone information via Advisor Center.
  5. Allow Advisor Attachment.
    • Check to allow advisors to attach files to assigned Milestones via Advisor Center.
    • ⚙️The query QCS_SR_STU_MILESTONE_DETAIL identifies Milestones that have uploaded documents.
  6. Information For Students.
    • Free-form text is viewable by students if Allow Student Self-Service is checked.

Enter Milestone Levels 

  1. Milestone Levels indicate the specific concentration(s) of study within a degree.
  2. Enter the following:
    • Milestone Level (15 characters maximum): Appears in Student Center if self-service is enabled.
    • Description (30 characters maximum): Appears in Student Center and on transcripts if printing is enabled.
    • Formal Description (50 characters maximum): Informational only and not student-facing.
  3. Select the Add a New Row [+] icon to add additional levels.
  4. Repeat entry steps as needed for each concentration.
  5. Select Save.
