9.2 Message Center - Using Comm Gen Loader
Purpose: Use this document as a reference for how load letters from Comm Gen into Message Center in ctcLink.
Audience: Student Services staff
You must have at least one of these local college managed security roles:
- ZZ HP Msg Center Config
If you need assistance with the above security roles, please contact your local college supervisor or IT Admin to request role access.
Using Comm Gen Loader
Navigation: NavBar > Navigator > HighPoint > Message Center > Processes > Comm Gen Loader
Use the Find an Existing Value tab to search for an existing Run Control ID, or create a new one.
- To create a new Run Control: click the Add a New Value tab.
- Enter a unique Run Control ID.
- Click Add.

Query Information
- Owner: Users can use Public or Private Queries
- Query Name: Input or Look up the Name of the query
IMPORTANT: Queries must contain the H_COMGEN_BIND_V record and have the COMMON_ID, SEQ_3C, and ENCL_SEQ_NUM fields in the Select clause.

Thread Information
- Institution: Select from drop down list.
- Department: Select Department that is sending the message.
- Regarding: Select the general message subject area.
- Subject: Input the specific message subject.
- Thread Expiration: Select if you want the thread to expire and input time period information

Message Text
- Input the text viewed by the student that links to the Comm Gen Letter that must already be assigned to the student.

The message text can contain placeholders to customize the message with values coming from the query results.
Query Results
Wrap the PS Query field name, including the table alias, with double curly brackets "{{" and "}}".
Example: {{A.NAME}} will be replaced with the value returned by the PS Query in A.NAME when the process runs.
For expression fields, use the Unique Field Name instead. i.e.: {{EXPR4_4}}
There is a special placeholder called {{LETTER_LINK}} that will be replaced with a hyperlink that reads "View Letter".
Running the Process
- Select Run. Please refer to the Process Scheduling QRG for instructions.

- Process complete.
