Query by Form in DirectLine
Purpose: This user guides explains how to search on any field in the DirectLine database.
Audience: Any DirectLine user.
This feature is activated from any data input screen. There is no specific navigation path. The sample used in this guide illustrates the Equipment Inventory Entry screen.
With your selected data entry screen open:
- Select the binoculars icon to initiate the query features.
- Enter text in any field. This example shows "laptop" in the Description field.
- Select the Refresh icon next to the binoculars.
The screen will populate with the first record meeting your search criteria. A record counter in the title bar will let you know how many records meet this same criteria.
- Use the navigation arrows to scroll through the search results.
You can include characters frequently used in data queries to provide more flexibility in your search. The table below will be helpful.

In the example below, []Server was typed into the Description field. This will look for any record that contains "Server" anywhere in the Description.
There are 112 records that contain the word "Server".
If you didn't get results you're looking for:
- Select the Clear icon to refresh the screen and begin again.
