Enable Screen Reader Mode
Purpose: Use this document as a resource for how to enable Screen Reader mode within ctcLink.
Audience: All Staff, Faculty and Students.
Instructions for Screen Reader Users
There are two different options for enabling screen reader mode: Accessibility menu or My Preferences page.
Accessibility Menu
- To turn Screen Reader Mode on using the Accessibility menu, select the Accessibility menu button on the top banner from the Home page.
- Select Enable Screen Reader mode from the available list options:
- Enable Screen Reader Mode
- Keyboard Shortcuts
- Accessibility Help
Note: If the Enable Screen Reader Mode option is not in the menu, that means Screen Reader mode is already enabled.
- Select "Yes" if you would like screen reader mode to persist for subsequent logins or select "No" if you only want it enabled for this login.
- Select the Back button.
My Preferences Page
- To turn Screen Reader Mode on using the My Preferences page, select the Action menu button on the top banner from the Home page.
- Select the Enter key.
- The menu options display:
- Personalize Homepage
- My Preferences
- Help
- Sign Out
- Use the down arrow and choose the My Preferences sub-menu.
- The My Preferences page displays.
- In the main content area General Settings section, select the Accessibility Layout combo box.
- Use the Enter key to expand the combo box and then choose the Screen Reader Mode ON option.
- Select the Save button in the main content area of the page.
- Use the Enter key to save the page.
- Select the Action menu button on the top banner.
- Press the Enter key.
- Use the down arrow key and choose the Sign Out.
- Sign In again. This will ensure that screen reader mode is on.
Instructions for Individuals without Visual Impairment
There are two different options for enabling screen reader mode: Accessibility menu or My Preferences page.
Follow the steps below to enable/disable screen reader mode for your user ID using the Accessibility button.
- Select the Accessibility menu button (the person within the circle) on the top left of the banner. (Your Self-Service tiles will vary.)
- Select the Enable Screen Reader Mode option from the list.
- A pop up message will display saying, "Screen reader mode will be enabled. Would you like to persist this setting for subsequent sessions?"
- Yes - A confirmation message will display saying, "Screen reader mode is now enabled and remains in effect on subsequent logins. Use the Back button to return to the previous content."
- No - A confirmation message will display saying, "Screen reader mode is now enabled for this session only. Use the Back button to return to the previous content."
- Cancel - Cancels the screen reader request.

- Process Complete
Follow the steps below to enable/disable screen reader mode for your user ID using the My Preferences page.
- Select the Action menu button (three vertical dots) from the top banner of the Home page.
- Select the My Preferences option from the Action drop down list.
- The My Preferences page appears. (Your Self-Service tiles will vary.)
- In the General Options section, select one of the following options from the Accessibility Layout list:
- Screen reader mode off - Select this option to disable accessibility features.
- Screen reader mode on - Select this option to enable the accessibility features.
- Once the screen reader mode has been changed, a pop up notification will display stating, "Your are changing the screen reader mode. When you save your preferences, you will be sent to a confirmation page in order to activate the mode selected."
- Select the OK button.
- Save your changes.
- A confirmation message will display saying, "Screen reader mode is now enabled/disabled. Use the Back button to return to the previous content."
- Sign out of the system and Sign in again for your changes to take effect.
- Once you make this change, it will remain active until you decide to enable/disable the Screen Reader Mode feature again.
- Process complete.
