Add Student Legal Name (SEVIS)

Purpose: Use this document as a reference for adding additional name types in ctcLink.

Audience: College staff responsible for maintaining student SEVIS information.

You must have at least one of these local college managed security roles:

  • ZC CC SOGI
  • ZC CS SEVIS
  • ZD CC SOGI
  • ZD CS SEVIS
  • ZZ CC SOGI
  • ZZ CS SEVIS

If you need assistance with the above security roles, please contact your local college supervisor or IT Admin to request role access.

You must also set these SACR Security permissions:

A person record must exist for the individual receiving the name modification in order to proceed with this process. See QRG: Adding Applications Manually without a Fee.

 Navigation: Campus Community > SEVIS > Personal Information > Add/Update a Person

  1. The Add/Update a Person search page displays.
  2. Enter Search Criteria to identify your student.
  3. Check the Include History option.
  4. Select the Search button.
  5. The Add/Update a Person page displays.
  6. Select the Names link.
  1. The Names page displays. Current names for the student are listed at the top.
  2. In the Type of Name drop-down menu, select Legal.
  3. Confirm or update the following fields:
    • Effective Date: Defaults to today’s date.
    • Status: Ensure it is set to Active.
    • Prefix: Optional (leave blank if not applicable).
    • First Name: Required (if no first name, enter a hyphen “-”).
    • Middle Name: Optional.
    • Last Name: Required.
    • Suffix: Optional (leave blank if not applicable).
  4. Click Submit.

Verify and Save

  1. The new Legal name type displays under Current Names.
  2. Verify the accuracy of all information.
  3. Select OK to return to the Add/Update a Person page.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
